Raiders Management adds Senior National Scout Lenny McGill to GM Dave Ziegler's staff
Earlier in the week, I released my Las Vegas Raiders 2022 draft grades for each pick made. A very solid draft, as I believe GM Dave Ziegler did a tremendous job of maneuvering up and down the board while winning the valuation game once they were on the clock.
Just hours later, the first-year GM announced that he will be adding a veteran to his revamped scouting department. Meet Senior National Scout Lenny McGill.
Who is Lenny McGill?
1989-1993 | Played CB at Arizona State | BS, Criminal Justice
1994-1998 | Former NFL player | Packers, Panthers, Falcons
2000-2008 | Packers Area Scout
2009-2014 | Denver Broncos Assistant Director of College Scouting
2014-2015 | Denver Broncos Southwest Regional Scout
2015-2022 | Miami Dolphins West Regional Scout
2022-present | Las Vegas Raiders West Regional Scout
Why the move was made?
Ziegler has ties to McGill from their scouting days together while with the division rival Denver Broncos.
At the time, Ziegler was an Area scout while McGill was the Assistant Director of College Scouting.
Fast forward to today, and the two are reunited. McGill left his post in Miami to tackle the same role in Las Vegas.
In the role of West Coast Regional Scout, McGill will be in charge of scouting the top prospects from conferences such as the Pac-12, Mountain West, and FCS programs.
Notable Pac-12 draft selections | Miami Dolphins
2015 | OG Jamil Douglas | Arizona St.
2017 | OG Isaac Asiata | Utah
2018 | RB Kalen Ballage | Arizona St.
2020 | OT Austin Jackson | USC
2021 | FS Jevon Holland | Oregon
McGill brings much more to the table than simply having a keen eye for talent. The fact that he played D1 ball for Arizona State while carving out his niche in the NFL as an undrafted free agent speaks volumes about his work ethic to succeed.
Furthermore, Orange Glen High retired his number just like my guy Sean Salisbury--two pioneers from lovely Escondido.
While it remains to be seen how the 2023 NFL Draft will unfold, one Pac-12 player who could be targeted is ILB Noah Sewell (Oregon). The need for an ILB for 2023 is apparent and Sewell could be one of their targets. I’ll keep a close eye on who McGill and the Raiders scout as the list goes from over 1,000 players down to 400-500 come December.
