7/21/22: News, Notes, & Quotes from Raiders Day 1 training camp practice
Football is back and so are the the Las Vegas Raiders--who are coming off a 2021 playoff run. However, a new management, new regime, and new cultural identity has created quite the buzz within NFL wavelengths.
Everyone is interested in new HC Josh McDaniels and how he will use the quartet of skill players including:
WR Davante Adams
WR Hunter Renfrow
TE Darren Waller
TE Foster Moreau
While we certainly can add RB Josh Jacobs to the list, I’ll leave him out for now, as we shift our focus to QB Derek Carr and the promising aerial attack.
Earlier this morning--McDaniels met with Raiders beat writers before the team’s first practice to discuss his vision for the upcoming season. And while McDaniels wouldn’t delve too deep into specifics, he did touch on a number of topics.
Below is my quick slant video of McDaniels’ presser earlier today.

PUP | Physically Unable to Perform
NT Johnathan Hankins (knee)
DT Bilal Nichols (knee)
CB Trayvon Mullen (foot)
Those players are currently in rehab and will continue to seek physical therapy for their respective injuries.
Competition internally creates positive vibes
Coach then touched on the design to add competition both internally and externally. The old saying that Jim Harbaugh used to tell me, “iron sharpens iron.” He also often used the term “every day you wake up, you either get better or worse, you never remain the same.” Both were evident in today’s pressers.
The iron sharpens iron mentality was in full swing as Coach McDaniels said that “competition” was best for all parties involved because it motivates the other to keep up or do better every day.
Below is Coach McDaniels talking about why competition is good and what it means for his players moving forward.

That’s the Raider Way. This is the Raider Mentality. This is the cultural identity moving forward. Aside from “accountability” and being “fundamentally sound,” you can add competition to compete at the top of the list.
