49ers name QB Jimmy Garoppolo, FS Jimmie Ward, among others as team captains
The San Francisco 49ers have named the team captains for the upcoming season. Those players were none other than QB Jimmy Garoppolo (3), RB Raheem Mostert, TE George Kittle, LT Trent Williams (2), DE Arik Armstead (2), MLB Fred Warner (3), and FS Jimmie Ward.
Each NFL team is awarded up to 8 team captains; the Niners rolled with seven. For Mostert and Ward, this is their first year as team captains while the longest-tenured player is Kittle (4).
In other news, the 49ers signed LB Nate Gerry to the team’s practice squad. To make room on the 16-player squad, the team “waived” OL Corbin Kaufusi.
