49ers CB Jason Verrett tears ACL, RB Raheem Mostert sent to IR, Dre Kirkpatrick signed
The San Francisco 49ers confirm what I was told shortly after the game ended-- CB Jason Verrett tore his ACL abruptly ending his 2021 season. If you joined us on discord you will continue to get breaking news first-hand before anyone else as another BEAST receipt checks out.
JV’s injury history since entering the league as a 2014 1st-round pick (No. 25) is well documented:
2014: hamstring, torn labrum, rotator cuff
2016: torn ACL
2017: season-ending knee surgery
2018: torn Achilles
2019: high ankle sprain
2021: torn ACL
Sad to say, but Verrett is injury-prone, as six of his eight seasons have ended on season-ending IR or he never took the field.
After a relatively healthy campaign in 2020, Verrett returned to the Niners on a one-year, $5.2M deal. (Learn the full analysis on my YouTube video below)
The TCU product was positioning for a big payday in 2022--betting on himself in a contract year. Unfortunately for him, the plan backfired as Verrett has tore his ACL for the second time in his NFL career.
Those injuries are career-threatening and Verrett is now more prone to developing osteoarthritis in the affected knee. Also, there is a high chance that cartilage damage can develop over time. This can’t be good news for Verrett, as NFL teams will likely shy away from him and his medical history.
The ability for him to pass his next NFL physical will be paramount in him earning another contract. Do I think that’s in San Francisco? Probably not. But time will tell.
Verrett becomes the 5th player to be sent to the IR. But the 49ers weren’t done there as RB Raheem Mostert was also sent to the injured reserve.
Injured Reserve (IR)
OT Shon Coleman (tricep strain)
DT Maurice Hurst (high ankle sprain)
CB Davontae Harris (hamstring)
WR Jalen Hurd (ACL)
CB Jason Verrett (ACL)
RB Raheem Mostert (osteoarthritis)
Something I predicted in my pre-draft analysis via YouTube where I said the Niners need a featured back because Mostert is injury-prone, turns out, another BEAST receipt checks out.
2019 (calf strain)
2020 (high ankle sprain)
2021 (osteoarthritis)
Mostert has had knee issues in the past and suffered a “chip cartilage” against the Detroit Lions which will now require arthroscopic surgery. This type of procedure is typically used to ease osteoarthritis (OA). In all likelihood, Mostert was probably experiencing the following; stiffness, pain, swelling, and decreased mobility.
Mostert will now be sent to the IR and will be out for the next 8-12 weeks. The typical recovery time for this type of injury. Likely ending his 2021 campaign.
49ers signing CB Dre Kirkpatrick
The two moves open up spots on the team’s 53-man roster. The Niners are currently working to infuse cornerback depth and signing 10-year veteran CB Dre Kirkpatrick as a result. He recently was given a private workout.
